In my native Canada, my family are well known
both nationally and throughout the equestrian
community worldwide. Both of my parents where
List A judges, and I was born with a pony waiting
for me. My whole family were leading riders while
growing up in Montreal and my aunt, Barbara Kemp
built the Cross Country course for the 1976 Montreal
Olympics, and the first woman to do so.
I was transferred to the UK in the 1970’s with one of the world’s largest recruitment company’s Drake International. While working for Drake, and my own company Masterlock Recruitment I became involved with the horse community in the UK.
Positions have included Chair of British Dressage from 1997 to 2007, President of the BHS from 2007 – 2011. I was given an Honorary Doctorate in 2002 from Writtle College (Essex University) and a MBE in the 2009 New Year’s Honors’ list for services to equestrianism. Most recently, I was Special Advisor to Dressage Canada for two years in the run up to the Rio Olympics.
I started riding at a young age & became renowned
for getting on any horse and getting a ‘tune’ out
of it and competed in most disciplines. After
University, I worked in London at Elan Recruitment
in both Sales and the IT departments. Manpower
took over in 2000 and worked there for 11 years.
After the 2008 recession, I started working full
time with horses in racing & polo. I qualified as a
equine body worker and healer, trained with Kelly
Marks, then became a freelance instructor and a
UKCC coach, based at a riding school.
Always had my own horses and I bred my first horse in 2012, Clover Hill/Cruising sport horse. Currently have 4, a showjumper, ex-race horse, 2 year old Thoroughbred and a young Trakhener. I aim to race the young Throughbred and event the Trakhener in 2018. Please get in touch if you need any advice
Coming from a dual background in client services,
marketing and operations I believe in building
relationships and achieving goals when matching
employers with candidates.
I have fuelled my passion for producing young and difficult horses through a number of equine positions spanning 30 years. My specialism has given me the privilage of working with some of the top riders and trainers in the world of polo, racing, eventing and dressage. I have been exposed to the inner workings of their yards, set-up and training methods and it has been an complete honour to have worked alongside their grooms and yard staff.
I am committed to the development of the equine sector through Career Grooms and look forward to speaking with you to provide assistance in building your business or career in the industry.
